Artist’s Statement

Driven by innovating, feminizing, and queering everything I touch, I make theatre, music, and sweaters. My artistic practice has evolved alongside the coalescence and divergence of different hobbies over my life. A background in marching band and choir taught me how to build structures, and a formal education in experimental theatre showed me when to tear them down.

Form is my first consideration, making intentional decisions about which stories fit in which containers, but themes of autobiography and temporality link the content of my work. I am interested in creating in draft and making my thought process visible even in the final product, so that my role as the artist feels inextricable from my projects. Curiosity about my own presence leading to tension between the artist and the art moves me to find new ways of incorporating my point of view into my work.
